Government of Japan ongoing support

Two Kato Diggers, kindly donated to, To Tatou Vai by the Government of Japan, will enhance the management of the Rarotonga water network.

Over the last two years To Tatou Vai, the authority managing, maintaining and operating the water supply network on Rarotonga received four pickup trucks, two jeeps, two trailers and two vacuum trucks through funding form the Japan International Cooperation System (JICS), facilitated by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management (MFEM).

Chief Executive Officer, Apii Timoti, says it is important to acknowledge the assistance of the Government of Japan for the donation of much needed specialist vehicles. “These diggers are perfectly suited for our needs—robust enough to handle the work required, yet compact enough to be safely and efficiently transported around the island, said Timoti. ‘’They will make a positive impact on the daily operations and resilience of our island’s water supply system.”, Timoti added.

The machines have now arrived in Rarotonga, and once all necessary formalities are completed, including training of staff by the manufacturer, Kato Works, they will be put to work supporting our field teams at the intakes and across the island. The two diggers are 2.5tonnes and 3.3tonnes.
